Diversity is our strength

People often comment on the diversity of our workforce. They ask what the key to our diversity strategy is. I reply, 'it’s just who we are'. – Janice

What does diversity mean to us?

Have fun while being the best. Learn from challenge and change. Show respect, humility and integrity. Unleash the power of our people. We embrace these values as our own. A deep mutual respect for our people is at the core of our values. We share common goals. Yet, we’re all unique and different. Our diversity is the common thread woven throughout our daily interactions with one another. And, that makes diversity everyone’s business and responsibility.

Valuing diversity goes beyond doing the right thing. It makes good business sense. Our diversity initiative is a multi-faced approach that reaches all levels of the organization.

The Company has:
  • A diverse pool of talented associates. When we mirror our communities and customer base, we’re better positioned to relate and adapt to their changing needs.

  • An inclusive work environment. Our culture, communications, leadership, policies, and projects carry the message of inclusion. As a result, everyone’s best performance is tuned in and turned on.

  • Highly effective teamwork. To cultivate a rich climate of engaged associates focused on our common goals, we leverage the power of our diverse cultural backgrounds, thoughts, talents, work styles and skills.

We’re continually energized by the uniqueness of every individual and we celebrate our differences in our daily work with each other.

What does addressing diversity mean?

Within consumer electronics, Canadian women are a national spending force, purchasing more than $7 billion annually. Women have a direct impact on Best Buy Canada Ltd.’s opportunities for future growth and market share.

If we want our stores to be places where women want to shop, we first have to be a place where women want to work.

The Women’s Leadership Forum or WOLF, is an enterprise-wide program we are proud to introduce to Canada in 2008. This program encourages leadership and personal growth, embracing our philosophies of community engagement and of honoring diversity by inviting employees to work together to improve the experience of both our female employees and our female customers.
